ABOUT

Sutton Barn is located on Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Whitmore Lake.

The Ianni family acquired Sutton Barn’s property in 2015. Upon the necessity to remove the drop ceiling and paneling, they stumbled upon the exquisite rustic barn hidden beneath. Devoting over three years to the task, they worked to restore and reveal the concealed rustic charm of Sutton Barn. Their efforts were driven by a deep affection for the property, aiming to offer it as a beautiful setting for an unforgettable wedding day.

The History of Sutton Barn

In the early 1800’s, frustrated by crop failures and bad weather, Benjamin Sutton left his Sussex County farm in New Jersey and moved to Michigan, where land was reported to be lush and inexpensive. In 1824 Benjamin Sutton became Northfield Township’s first pioneer, purchasing 80 acres of land on what is now Sutton Road. He thrived in his new home and became not only a successful farmer, but also a livestock dealer and politician, one of Michigan’s first state legislators.

Many settlers followed and the land on which Rolling Meadows Golf Course sits today passed through the hands of several of these early Irish families. It is believed that the Sutton Barn, named in honor of Benjamin Sutton, was built in the 1800’s by these early Irish settlers.
